i have got records from 1901 census ( previous post ) about my GM. it states where and when she was born....but...i can find no records of her birth in the area or timescale it says........... she was born in swansea 4 may 1890...name margaretta williams father thomas mother emma i do apologise for seeming thick here, but this whole thing is tangling me up in knots...lol

There is a possible birth in Merthyr Tydfil -Sep Quarter -1890 -Vol 11a - page 376. This is not far from Swansea.

You can order one of these birth certificates with a request that you only want the certificate if the father's name is right. That way you will not waste the whole of your £7 if you request the wrong one. Good luck Irene

On the 1891 census her age is give as 2, so would presume therefore she was born 1889 - in which case the birth registration on your other thread looks very likely. I am presuming you have got her birth year from her headstone (if I remember rightly). Bear in mind that the information given at death is only as reliable as the informant - maybe her exact year of birth was not known or was guessed. Personally I would suggest ordering the 1889 certificate which a checking point that the father´s name is Thomas. I wouldn´t put mother´s name of Emma as a checking point, as I think on a previous census she used the name Emily. If you put Emma, and the name on the birth cert. is Emily, then the GRO will not issue the certificate.
