Entering dates into tree

If you are putting info. into your GR tree direct you have to follow the rules it sets. Many people keep their information on a family tree program on their home computer. You can create a GEDCOM file which takes the data from your computer, then upload it to GR. That's the way that incomplete dates get on to GR trees. It's always a good idea to keep your tree info.in two places (but make sure you do all your updating one only one). I use Family Tree Maker, which you can currently buy for £5.99. It's much more versatile than the GR tree builder and can cope with cousins marrying. J |

How come when entering dates as say for eg: May 1812 it comes up with error message: invalid date. pls enter date in a date format of dd/mm/yyyy, but yet when I view shared trees I see contacts have entered date as eg May 1812 which has been accepted and not on my tree.??? |
