Bear in mind that the birth may not have been registered.........it wasn't compulsory until 1875. As for her age........I reckon that given by her parents is the most likely to be accurate; especially that given by her mother, who, after all, was there at the time!!..lol . Reg

She married my Great-Grandfather Elijah Simper on 2 Sept. 1883, her age was 24 dob Abt1859 and father Thomas Holbrook (deceased). On the 1901 Census her age is given as 38 abt1863, born Apperley Gloucestershire. On the 1891 Census her age is given as 30 abt1861, born Apperley Gloucestershire. I cannot find her on the 1881 Census. On the 1871 Census her age is given as 12 abt1859, born Leigh Gloucestershire, Mother Eliza Holbrook a widow. On the 1861 Census her age is given as 3 abt1858, born Leigh Gloucestershire, Mother Eliza, Father Thomas Holbrook. Both Apperley and Leigh come under the registration of Tewkesbury sub-registration district Deerhurst. So I ordered a birth certificate for Mary Ann Holbrook born 1859 and registered in Tewkesbury. Last week I received the certificate for Mary Ann born in Tirley sub registration Deerhurst. There is no Fathers name on the certificate and Mothers name is Elizabeth Holbrook. Now I’m not sure I have the correct certificate as the 1861 Census shows Mary Ann having two older Sisters. I have been using the marriage date assuming it to be the most accurate, now I’m not sure. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Malcolm
