Hi all, what is the solution when you get a very bad, hard to read marriage cert? For the first time ever ive just got a badun, cant read the date, nor the occupation of the groom or that of the brides father! for him it looks like 'Busker' (journeyman) which it could be, because all the family of the bride and groom were in the entertainment business, actors, actresses, so maybe just maybe Busker it could be, after they travelled a lot for work didnt they. Its certain not 'BUTCHER' But the cert certainly isnt up to the GRO Standard, and its not an early date, well 1927, but I dont call that early. Anybody else had this problem? I dont really mind so long as I can read it in total. Ive emailed them this morning but I dodnt know the best way to proceed with this, its not a complaint so long as they can read the damm thing themselves and let me know what it says. Thanks all. TED.

If you give them a ring and explain, maybe they will give you the details over the phone.Or who knows, they may well email the deails. Good luck

Hi Ted I've had that happen to me a couple of times. What I have done is scanned the certificate, made it a much larger size on the PC and played around with darkness / contrast and managed to work out what it says. Not very scientific I know, but has done the trick for me so far. Good luck!!! Richard

Richard, hi, ive tried that, but the original is soooooooo faint its just no go and the writing isnt that big, so its very hard. Anyway ive emailed them asking for help and also emailed PLYMOUTH Registry Office asking for their help as well. So who knows, I must admit its the first one that ive had which is really bad, considering that the the year is 1927. Ive had ones from 1873 which werent too hot, but not as bad as this one, but if the original isnt up to scratch then what can you do. Ive been staring at the scanned one and its making my eyes sore. Cheers, TED.

I had the same problem lastw eek trying to read a marraige entry scan on Scotlands People. I sent an email, hoping at best they may be able to read the details their end, but probably expecting to be told tough. This morning I had an A4 and an A3 scan of the original image in perfect clarity, sent to me in the post at their cost! Fantastic service. Lets hope Southport are as helpful and on the ball for you Ted.
