I don't think you can export from Ancestry. Sorry.

Hi all I have my tree on ancetry.com and would like to know how export it back into a ged com file to put on my family tree maker. Can seem to find any help on the site which will allow me to do this. It would be nice to have a back up file to keep as well. I have put alot on my tree lately and it would take some time to have to type it into my family tree maker. Does anyone know the answer, Appriciated Bev

Hi Tracy How frustrating, maybe I would of thought twice about putting it on if i'd known. Just another way to keep your subscription. Thanks for the info. Bev

I have my tree on Ancestry, but I only update the Gedcom file that I have on my tree programme. When I have enough data, I upload it to there and here.

Beverley The one big thing in your favour is that you use a family tree programme on your pc. If you use that as your primary source you can then send anything from that programme to any other programme via a GEDCOM. Assuming you use a full working version of FTM you can import/export Gedcom files but the ancestry tree builder is in effect a starter version of FTM. You can add the census source etc to the Ancestry tree (in much the same way as FTM websearch does) but you can't export from Ancestry. Your easiest (laziest) way of doing it is to put all your details onto FTM, then export via the gedcom files to whichever site/researcher from FTM. You will only have to enter the details to FTM once and then they can be shared where ever you want.
