The 100 year rule applies to searching online for Scottish births. The only thing I know of is if you have details of a person's birth you can go to the Registry Office and obtain a copy. The 75 year rule applies to Marriages and the 50 year rule to Deaths. This is all done to protect the living. This is verbatim from GROS : 'Computerised indexes to historical material, that is the statutory indexes of births from 1855 to 1905, marriages from 1855 to 1930 and indexes of deaths from 1855 to 1955, the old parish register indexes of births/baptisms and banns/marriages from 1553 to 1854 and the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 census indexes, are available on the ScotlandsPeople website. Digital images of these statutory registers, and the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1891 and 1901 census returns are also available'. Ray. |

If you have enough information you can always apply direct to the GRO in Edinburgh for any records, to date - details on the GROS website. I think they will undertake a limited amount of searching. Access to the database post 1905 is available in Glasgow and Dundee, possibly elsewhere. You can, of course, always apply direct to the appropriate local registry office. Denis. |
