Thanks very much for the quick replies ... Jennifer I think you have found the correct Le Bean family as Hannah's birth year is 1831/32. .... thank you very much!!!!! When I started the post, my intention was simply to ask the question, and afraid I got a bit carried away entering information from memory as the certs are at home. I'll try and be more prepared next time I ask!!! btw Dawn, thanks for the info, my Brickel relations only have one l at the end of the name, I have John Brickel still at home with his mum in 1841 and (I think) for some reason lodging in Notts in 1851 ......

Could this be a miswritten entry for the 1941 census? It all depends on the the way the question was put at the time, he may have been simply asked asked the name of his father, and not whether he was alive or dead. I have a certificate where the father is not named, but he was still very much alive, others state the father's name, but not that they were deceased, although in some cases they had been for some years. Name: John Brickel Year of Registration: 1839 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar DISTRICT: Bethnal Green County: United Kingdom Volume: 2 Page: 42 As for your being unable to find Hannah le Bean, have you searched using soundex, it is the type of name very easily heard and/or written incorrectly. This looks a likely entry in 1841. Source information: HO107/691/2 Registration district: Bethnal Green Sub-registration district: Church ED, institution, or vessel: 4 Folio: 27 Page: 3 John Labean abt 1776 Middlesex, England Bethnal Green Middlesex Hannah Labean abt 1831 Middlesex, England Bethnal Green Middlesex ( This Hannah shoule have birth abt 1781 she is sixty not ten on the image) Hannah Labean abt 1832 Middlesex, England Bethnal Green Middlesex Jennifer

Yesterday I received the marriage certificates for two lots of my gt gt grandparents, one from 1854 and one from 1864. The main reason for acquiring them was to confim their fathers names, at least of of whom I was 99% sure had died before the 1841 census, and also to confirm years of birth. Both couples had their ages listed as 'Full' so that was disappointing (but not unexpected), but my gt gt grandfather John Brickel (b1831 Bethnal Green) has his father also listed as John Brickel, Weaver, but it does not say he was deceased ....... whereas I'm pretty sure from the 1841 census, that the father was deceased. I can't find his wife Hannah le Bean on any census at all before the mariage, or her father John le Bean anywhere! My question is, if the father was deceased at that time, was it stated as such on mariage certificates, or did that practise only come in at a certain date? Richard
