Thanks Shirley - I have printed off the form ready to send. It must be great to spend time with like minded people. All I get at home is a lot of sighs and bored expressions when I talk 'family tree'. Will give it a go and fingers crossed I can knock down some of my brick walls. Thanks again for your interest Best wishes Maria

Absolutely !! I belong to the Kent Family History soc . Altho now I live in Kent my families came from East/South London ,Essex , Middlesex,& Birmingham..But the members are a mine of info and lots are searching family that didnt live in Kent until later . We have monthly meetings with a speaker, for instance, one time we had some one from the Huguenot Soc,VERY interesting, and every month they put on coaches to the FRC at £8.50 per seat door to door, and every three months to Kew. I have been pointed in the right direction for some of my brick walls by very experienced members, plus its a very sociable group so its a pleasant social afternoon out for the meetings. Ours is only £10.00 for the year but i would pay more if i had to. Shirley

Ann - its £18 which I know isn't a lot but I seem to spend so much on this fascinating hobby! Hubby has started to check bank statements for ONS debits!! Thanks for your feedback Best wishes Maria

Hi Maria You didn't say what the cost is. I recently had a look in a Library while researching my husbands family + there were files+ files full of info from the local History assc. (in the Local History section). It was a mine of information. Also my local FHS online is very good too. Ann

Hi, I'm thinking of getting my dad (and me) a family membership to the Manchester society. It looks from their website that they have a lot of resources available to members. Does anyone belong to Manchester or to another one of these societies? Are they a good investment? The Manchester one has a list of members which you can't get at until you join and one of them has 3 of my family names which they are researching! Many thanks Maria
