Does anyone know of any sites that would help me in tracing my Spanish rellies. I have managed to find out that my ancestor came as a ships master and docked in Liverpool. So any help either on mariner or Spain would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lisa |

There are no certificates etc for births, marrriages and deaths in Spain. There is only what is called 'el libro de la familia' - like a family bible. The best idea would be to try to find where the person came from (town and town council) and then write to the town hall direct. They will have a record but they will certainly charge you for a copy. Be prepared to wait up to 3 months for a reply. |

Ian, civil registration started in Spain in about 1870.There are certificates for births, marriages and deaths and they give far more information than English ones. Fran |
