I have found a place of birth listed on the 1871 census as Somers Town. Please can antone on the list give me some idea the area covers as on the 1861 census it is not listed as a place of birth. I have a common name with several other people listed in London with the same birth year. Many thanks in advance, Jackie |

Hi Jackie I used to work for Camden Council & it's definitely in that borough. It's the area between St Pancras Station and Monnington Crescent and would have been part of the old borough of St Pancras. If you need more info, try the Camden Local Studies Library, see link: http://www.camden.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/leisure/ local-history/ Hope that helps Malcolm |

A lot of the area around Somers Town was flattened when the Midland Railway extension to St. Pancras was built (1850-1860 era). Somers Town Goods Station was where the British Library is now. This was an extremely poor area. J |
