As far as I know Jackie, legal adoption did not come into place until around 1926ish. I am sure someone on the list will be able to answer this question more accurately. Jackie |

I have had a bit of trouble finding my grandads birth index even though I knew his birth date in 1916 but have eventually found it with his surname the same as his mothers maiden name. From this I think he was born out of wedlock. In 1921 however his mother married and he has taken on his stepfathers surname. Can I find out if he was adopted by his stepfather or had just changed his name? Would I be able to view these papers? Hope someone can help Jackie |
