Where do I find records of a Journeyman Plumber? Possibly in Scotland 1880s. A 1899 birth certificate states father Plumber - Journeyman. Also would I right in thinking that 'Journeyman' is another name for an apprentice. Anne-Marie |

Journeyman - A tradesman who has served his trade apprenticeship and mastered his craft, not bound to serve a master, but originally hired by the day. The name derives from the French for day - jour. |

I don't know about Scotland but a lot of apprentice records are on the Access to arcives site. I think they are also at British origins but I expect someone who knows more about Scotland will be able to tell you. If he set up his own business you might pick him in on a historic directory but you would need to know the town where he was working. Anne |

Hi Anne, As far as I am aware he didn't set up his own business. By 1891 he was in Newcastle. I will try the sites you mention. Many thanks for you help. Anne-Marie |
