Missing great-grandmother

I think it might be. I just had a look over the original census image (she's there on Ancestry but not on the National Archives site - I've found that a lot - Maria isn't there and neither is Marie) and it looks like it could be her. I wonder why her age is different, though - maybe she didn't want someone to find her or something. Saying that, my other great grandfather was most impressive at giving his age on the census - 8 months in 1861, 10 years in 1871, 18 in 1881, 29 in 1891 and 37 in 1901 - he must have been quite a miraculous man to have been losing age like that. Also, it would make sense for her be in the Midlands, as I know she got back to Notts within two years, to be married. Her parents were living in Retford and she got married in Retford. She and her husband lived there - detouring via Boothby Pagnell for some reason, where my grandad was born. I wish I'd found this board earlier. Thanks very much everybody.

Thanks for the link to Herman Ernst. I don't know if Maria was at school because she was a servant at the age of fourteen, but perhaps the family came into some money. There's a family belief that Maria was wealthy - she bought a house in Retford, Notts., ten years after her wedding, for two hundred pounds with her own money, but we don't know where it came from. Her father was a coachman but was later the cemetery keeper of the North Road cemetery in Retford for about 33 years - he died in 1917. If she was in London, I suppose it's possible she could have been out of England at some point around 1901.

Can anyone solve this one? It's a big mystery and I'm trying to get some ideas. Great-grandma Maria Ann Barnett born 25/7/1877 Tinsley Park, Yorkshire is missing from the 1901 census. Her parents were George Barnett and Mary Ann Dennis - George was a cemetery keeper. She had three siblings - Ellen (13) is with her parents in 1901, John William (27) is working in Brightside Bierlow and Betsy (21) is missing too. What I can't fathom is, where would an unmarried twenty-four year old woman be, without her parents, in 1901? Ten years before she worked for a Wesleyan minister called Elisha Eslick, whose children had been born in India, as I recall, so I thought he might have gone back, taking the servants, but the Eslick family are still there. Maria didn't marry until 1903, so where could she have gone? We have a photograph of her - judging by her clothes (which are not especially plain - embroidery, lace on the collar etc, puffed sleeves at the shoulder) and the sitter's age she is somewhere between sixteen and twenty-one and the top of her dress looks 1890s - but the signature underneath reads 'Hermann Ernst'. I have googled the name but came up with nothing.
