Hi Sharon, As Johns birth was pre 1837 and there were no birth certificates then, the only record you are likely to find is the record of his baptism in the parish registers or possibly on the IGI, as I mentioned before. Some parish registers are available to view online, but by no means all. If you wish to proceed, I suggest obtaining the marriage certificate to get the right age for John, then it starts to get expensive if you are not in Worcestershire. The parish records for Cradley are held in the Worcestershire Archives, see this site :- http://worcestershire.whub.org.uk/home/wcc-records-family-history The majority of people travel to the appropriate records office to view the registers on micro-fiche as a dayout or a break for a few days. If you are unable to travel to the Archives, check the Family History Society for Worcestershire, they may hold transcriptions of the registers that you can purchase. As well as baptisms, you can of course search for marriages and burials (not deaths). Pre 1837 people tend to record dates of baptism as birth dates are only on very few records if the vicar kind enough to record it as this was not required. Hope this helps Keith |

bless you Keith! and for your p.m's.... my internet connection wouldnt work....again.... I'd looked at that, but misread Johns as 257, not 254. also on their sons birth cert its spelt Ann-but as she couldn't write, I should have realised! If your not sick of this yet...could you advise me of my next step, as his birth will be c1825 and I gather from you I have to look at parish records, which i've never done. Can you explain what I need to do to find john's birth or his birth cert? Whatever, thank you very much Keith Sharon |

Hi Sharon, Pre 1837 you will not find a birth certificate, registration did not start until then. You will have to go to parish records to find information on baptisms, marriages and burials pre 1837 or the IGI. I would caution use of the IGI as some information is incorrect and needs to be confirmed against the parish records. Keith |
