I know one of you clever lot will help me. How do i find out if any of my ancestors were in the armed forces? I am assuming some of the men were due to wars etc, but i have no idea how to find out....can you advise please? Donna

For WW1 & 2 you can go onto national archives and enter the names of any you think may have been in the army, if they died or received medals there should be something on there. You normally pay £3.50 to view them online. Sometimes things cannot be viewed due to the 100 years disclosure which is from the date of birth of people. Hope this helps Jackie

The address that porkie pie has added is the one. Look on your tree for those who were alive at the time and old enough to be in the army. I mainly searched for my pedigree names to start with. If a medal card comes up they will tell you the regiment and number also the date it was received and what medal it was. Sometimes they give you the birth date. I can't remember the site, but I found photos of the medals. Try googling for british medals.

Hello Mummy, but your busy so i dont like to ask. Its the Simpsons i want to find out on.......like Grandad, was he in the army maybe? And his dad etc. Also, i know on the Rooney side re the Police, but how do i find out about them in the forces? I could be days at Kew without any info to go on? xx ps I'll try that link, many thanks for that.
