National Burial Index - any good?

Through the Somerset and Dorset Family History Society I bought the Burial index for one name I am interested in. That gave me 70% coverage for Somerset. Variants of spelling were included. But I only bought one surname. That cost £7 for a blanket search. For me it was quite useful to be able to see when some of my ancestors died and, because it's a rare name, I was able to do a count of how many were being buried in each place so I could see clusters. That was handy to see not only where they were but also where they weren't. If what you are being offered covers a large area and lots of names then it may be very useful. This is particularly so if you can't get to the Records Offices. It wouldn't take long at £7 for all examples of a name to get to £40. You can buy per view at http://www(.)familyhistoryonline but that can quickly mount up if you use it a lot. Sue

No not at all Rebecca, its just that I feel it is not 'right' to pass on sources of information without permission especially when its an individual. Julie

If you google nbi....you can check exactly what is included.....thus knowing if it covers the areas and dates which would be useful to you.......... Reg

Hello all was having a nosey on Ebay to see if I could find anything related to my family as I often see people on here talking about family bibles on Ebay. I came accross a CD with National Burial Indexes (2nd Edition) for England and Wales for sale for about £40 and wondered if any one had bought one or knew someone who had and how useful it was? I know it depends on the area and the family names etc, was just curious if any one had any opinions on it? Thank you
