I, too, have just had a good search of 1871 with no luck. Sorry! All I can say, Donald, is that I'm glad it's not my tree, it's a confusing one. There are just too many James Whitworths in the Rochdale area. Good luck, Margaret

Thanks Gail for all your help. I don't know if they had moved to oz. He had two sisters that moved to OZ shortly there after. His one sister is listed in the 1871 census and he is not. A distant cousin who lives in Oz is not aware of this as he gave me the information from Roger. His sister Susannah should also be listed. I would have presumed that he would have taken over the store. Maybe some luck someone can connect this.

Elizabeth married Whitehead and was living next door to her Parents. Her younger sister Eliza was living with her in the 1871 Census. This is when James Sr. is not recorderd in the census. I did not locte anything on BMD for Rochdale. There are alot of James so I cannot narrow that one down, but I do have some reords of possibilities. I don't have access to the 1871 Census to find James and Sarah. If the child is theirs , it should be recorded in the 1871 Census. Should I post for a search be done on James Wrigley Whitworth And Sarah Whitworth in the 1871 Census

I think sister Elizabeth is the one who married a Whitehead, as they are above them on the 1861 census and sister Eliza is visiting them on the 1871 census - still tracking the family and it has not led me to James and Sarah yet. Regards Gail

I have no clue as to any of James family unless we find him in the 1871 Census.

Where is Mary Ann the mother on the 1861 because she is not with husband James, but I think it says he is married not widowed? Regards Gail

The information that you have posted I have already seen. The person who listed this is a distant relative,he obtain the information from Roger Whitworth on a one name study. I cannot confirm the information as no record shows a James W Whitworth on the BMD (death ) taken place in Rochdale at the age of 39. He was given information that James married a Whitehead but the BMD does list Sarah and she was living with his father in 1861 Census. This is all the information I have on him. His parents are listed as I mentioned in the 1841 1851 and 1861 Census. He may be a witness as to when his father passed on but I cannot narrow down that time. Since I don't have access to the Parish records in Rochdale I cannot search the records to confirm. I was trying to piece why I cannot find him in the 1861 Census since he got married a few years after the Census.

It also might be worthwhile sending for that marriage certificate, to see if parents etc match up. Regards Gail Update - I cannot see a James (Wrigley) Whitworth death registered in the first quarter 1869, but that is not conclusive by any means.

Donald, there's a tree on Rootsweb that has a James Wrigley Whitworth, baptised 19 Oct.1834, Rochdale, Lancashire and died 13 Jan.1869, West House Greaze, Rochdale, Lancashire. It says the parents are James Whitworth and Mary Ann Place but it also says that James Wrigley married an unknown Whitehead abt.1854. Might be worth contacting the tree owner. Margaret
