Is GR On The Blink Again?

Someone has asked me to view their tree tonight. When I opened it they only have themselves in it! The tree actually says 1 relation. Are they having a laugh or is GR going haywire again? Carole

I have had no problems viewing trees to-night. Sheila

If they are not having a laugh, 1 name means they have deleted it or are in the process of uploading a new gedcom.

Well, I was wondering the same thing myself - I have just viewed someone's tree, with over 700 names on it and not a date to be seen anywhere! It is simply names - no places, no dates, nothing except names! I have looked at it in both views (old tree and new tree). I now have to decide whether any member would enter 700+ names with absolutely NO other detail, or whether GR is playing up, before I send my reply to the contact! OC

I often come across trees where names are given but no dates, and this applies to people born in the 1800s as well as the present. How is it possible to do this? If I try to add a person without their year of birth, the tree programme will not let me.

Kate Some programs such as family tree maker allow you to privatise your file before exporting it so that no living relative has info other than their name showing, unfortunately if you have a relative botn 1850 but no recorded death you could find that they show up as just a name when you upload to GR or it will give DoB as private.

This is a tree which goes back to 1640 - I know this because I have details about the early family. There honestly seems little point in having that sort of tree on here - I found it by searching the site and finding one of my very unusual names. It wouls surely never show up in hot matches? Most of the names on it are bog standard, except this one. OC
