FTM & Genealogy on-line for dummies

I've just seen these 2 books advertised on amazon: Ftm for dummies & genealogy on-line for dummies. Does anyone know if they're any good? As someone who's always asking silly questions on here because as soon as I start to read the on-screen instructions on FTM my eyes glaze over & my brain goes numb, I wondered whether I should be asking for these for Christmas, and saving you helpful people all a lot of work!

Karen, They're very American (as all the 'Dummies' series are). I borrowed an earlier edition on FTM from the Library and didn't find it very useful. Have picked up more from the tips given in the threads here as members explain more clearly! Possibly the 'Dummies' format and style just don't suit me personally. Try to look through them at a bookshop or library first to see what you think. Regards. Carol

Thanks Carol. I know I've picked up loads of useful tips on here too. I thought it would be useful to have everything in one place to refer to, but I must admit very americanised things don't tend to suit me either.

The FTM online site has screenshots displayed, it is far easier to follow those than a written explanation most of the time. If i said 'the save in box appears, simply select the directory destination where the file is to be stored and the file path to be used for the specific file type eg FTW. FBK. FBC. (Filenames should have the correct file suffix and name to allow storage...............' then that is harder for me to explain and for you to follow than the screenshot you get on the online help centre.
