Class: RG11; Piece: 716; Folio: 67; Page: 29; Line: ; GSU roll: 1341167 Hi I was wondering on a soure citation what it all stands for and whether you need to sace the full source or just piece, folio & page number? I can see where the page number comes in and the folio number. With the class and piece how is that done etc? Thanks |

Class is the public record office class of record - eg RG11 refers to 1881 census; piece is the section of that record - so Piece 716 would cover a particular parish or part of a parish; folio is literally the leaf of paper - so each folio will include 2 pages; line is self explanatory. All these references are important as without the Class you wouldn't know which census your ref came from, and without the Piece your folio and page ref could refer to thousands of different places. I'm not sure but think the GSU ref is specific to Ancestry. |
