There is a couple called Jacob & Mary Greenwood on the 1901 in Todmorden but they are both in their twenties. I would think they were the couple you have found the marriage reference for. Both were born in Cornholme. I'm guessing the Jacob you are looking for is the 70 year old in Colne, Lancs. with a 58 year old wife? The registration district should be Burnley if they married locally. |

Thank you all for your answers, I always thought you had to put both names down for the certificate, I will send for it with just Jacob's name on, thank you again. regards Tox |

There will be 8 names on the page, four couples, but the full index has not been transcribed yet. So the other two ladies who haven't yet been transcribed could possibly both be Marys too. As mentioned before, order the certificate without putting any bride's name, give only the man's name. |

Just order the marriage certificate using your great grandfather's name and don't put any name for the bride. You will then get the right certificate. You don't need to give both names. Kath. x |

Hi Jim, I thought that also, I even asked if the name was SCOTT not STOTT but no reply. I suppose the only thing to do is look at the original's as you say. Regards Tox |

Thank you Jeanette, hope this not a long story. In the 1901 census my Great Grandfather Jacob Greenwood was married to someone called Mary from Denbigne Wales, this was his 3rd marriage, he died in 1902. The index I have is Jacob Greenwood married 1898 4th Quarter Todmorden 9a 424 the 2 names I could chose from are: Mary Helliwell (which was the wrong one) Mary Stott ( which I was told was wrong) What can I do next please. Regards Tox |

I suggest having a look at the images and checking the page numbers on the originals. Sounds like a transcription problem. Jim |

the names will be in alphabetical order if there is 5 it means that one person has not been transribed so unless you know who they married you can look on 1901 census to match up. if you put names down here perhaps some one can find right marriage Jeanette |

Hi, can anyone help, I have found an index for my Great Grandfather's marriage in 1898, when I sent for the certificate I had reply that the 2 people I had chosen were not on the same page, so no certificate. When I check again there are only 5 names to chose from, how does this work please. Regards Tox |
