Valerie, You need to post a reply so we know you are still around! Everyone finds it difficult at first, you will soon get the hang of it. Do you mean you don't know where to start looking? Who are you looking for, what information are you trying to find. Were you adopted? or are you looking for someone who was, or is it some lost members of your family? Ann

We'd love to try to help you...........but can't do so without some factual input from you........... You must have some names.....even if it's only your own.....the best starting point for genealogical research........ Reg

And don't pay out for credits to search the bmd index either. There are several free sites to use for searching England and Wales bmd. Glen

Val, well youre not likely to find anyone if you dont know anysurnames. You must know SOMETHING. Work backwards from that. What do you know? You know what, your parents names? You know your grandparents names? Give us exactly what you do know for definite, names, dates, places and we can help you from there.

I find family historyonline good as lookups only cost about 10p each. I also use free bmd and family search.org which has the 1881 census free. Do post what you know and ask for tips. Members here can often save people new to family history a lot of money.

Hi Valerie Where are you looking? If your family wee in England you'll find that Ancestry is the best site....it sounds expensive but it has all censuses and the bmd index. Heather
