Help needed for marriage pleeeeease!!!!!!

Well l have just looked up the GRO index from 1883-1888 and no luck! So she wasn't a child bride! maureen |

Remember it was legal for Nellie to marry at 12 years of age! Have you tried the records from 1883? |

many thanks to Shirley and Glen....have been away so just got your replies. Will send off to see if that was their child. Yes...they may not have been married...but family stories say that he was a very religious man...and a preacher!!!! Mind you...that doesn't mean anything!! maureen |

There a couple of possibilities The marriage may never have made it to the GRO index (it did happen). Did they actually marry? Bearing in mind she was born in 1871 a child born in wedlock 1890 would have meant a marriage under license. It isn't unknown for an unmarried couple to claim marriage on the census and birth certificates etc. They may even have married much later (one of my lot married when the youngest child was 14 but all the kids birth certs indicate that the children were legitimate when in truth they were all illegitimate) |

Have been trying to find this marriage between my grt grandparents for ages now....with no luck. He is Theodore Smith...born in 1847 and she is Helen (or Ellen or Nellie) Weston, born in 1871. l have them on the 1891 cenus (as married) and she is called Nellie, and then l have them on the 1901 census, with my grandad, who is also Theodore and born in 1896...and she is Helen. l have spent money trying to find their marriage, but with no luck. Can anyone help me?? Thanks Forgot to add that they were living in London.....Marylebone area l think. maureen |
