I worked my way through the local workhouse and found some of mine that way. |

Have you tried just the surname with a soundex and the county that the work house is in? or scanning the pages of the work house on the census either side of this birth might also be an option. |

Thanks, but yes, I've tried all those possibilities and I'm still stuck. Never mind. I'll keep looking. I'm determined to find the little blighters!! Thanks again. |

And they werent Irish with that name? Put the details you HAVE found on here and people will have a look for you. The other problem being that if they were in a workhouse at the time, they may just have been recorded as their initials Im afraid. |

In Ancestry, have you tried just searching for one of the children first names with mother and father's first names - this helped me several times to find families where the surname has been mistranscribed. |

I sent off for a birth certificate for one of my Flanagans - and it's the right one. It gives me the Mother's maiden name, so I've now found her marriage (10 years earlier than I thought - which probably means yet more kids to find) and says the child was born in Farnworth Workhouse. However, even with this new info, other than the marriage, I can't find this family for flippin' toffee!! Is it possible for them to miss the Census people? I know they moved around a lot, and were in the workhouse a lot (in and out like yo-yo's) but surely, wherever they were, they would have been found or am I just being dim?? I won't bore you with all the info for the family as you've had it all a thousand times. I just want to let off steam about this family - again!! Thanks for listening. Any ideas appreciated. |
