Names at the time of marriage.

If a woman marries more then once, dose she have to marry in her, birth / single name or can she remarry in her 1st married name. I have someone who i think may have married for the 2nd time but used her first married name to remarry. Can you do this. Diane |

Hi Diane. Yes they can do that. My great great grand mother married more than once. I myself remarried after the death of my late husband. I had to remarry with my last married name. Vanesa |

Most times they will be in the name of the 1st marriage and not the maiden name. Subsequent children of the second marriage will often have the mothers name along the following lines; Mary Smith late Jones Formerly Cooper meaning she is now Mrs Smith, was previously Mrs Jones and her maiden name was Cooper. The marriage to Mr Smith would have been registered as Mary Jones to Mr Smith. |
