Not sure what research you want to make.....I visited Kew to follow whatever my father was doing by viewing the War Diaries for his unit.....Then for his personal service I obtained his file from somewhere in Glasgow...cost about £30 but gave a full description including where he was posted and all his misdemeanors and punishments

Have you tried putting his name in on the National Archives site. You may get lucky

Can anyone tell me how l go about searching records for A Captain M.A. Groves who served from about 1938 -1943. I have his service number. Pat Groves
