Hello Has anyone come across the name Ettie in families. This was the name as it was registered in the births and sadly in the deaths a year later. I would guess therefore it was not a nickname or shortened name.Any thoughts please? Regards Mike S

Hi, Have heard of Ettie as a shortened version of Henrietta before. Found this on a baby names site, hope it's of some help. The girl's name Ettie is related to Etta and Henrietta. Search for names similar to Ettie starting with Et- or ending with -ie, -tie, -ttie, -ettie. Ettie is a rather uncommon female first name, ranking 4158 out of 4275 for females of all ages in the 1990 U.S. Census. Ettie is a rare surname as it was not ranked for people of all ages in the 1990 U.S. Census. Dawn

Many thanks to Dawn and Irene. My wife's greatgrandfather Edwin Mortimer married an Ellen and went on to name their 9 children with names all starting with E including Edmund,Edgar,Ellen Edith and Erving(with an 'E') An Ettie who died in infancy might just have filled a 5 year gao between children and he must have had an original approach in naming children! Thanks again
