I have found Sysbury M Hewett on the 1901, can't view the image but this seems quite likely, dates and area are a match. |

Hi Rick, If you have the birth reference for him, you need to send for his birth certificate, this will give you his parents names including mothers maiden name, it will make it easier to find him on the census and/or confirm the details Jeanette has found above. Keith |

He could be mistranscribed on 1901 - have you tried different spellings, Sidney/Sydney and Hewett/Hewitt etc and he may not be listed using his middle name. Sam x |

Can't find my Great Grandfather, Sydney Michael Hewett. The story goes he ran away from home at 16, but does not appear on the 1901 census so I can't trace his family. He was born in Newton Abbot district 4Q 1892, he died in the same district 3Q 1961 I belive he married Ethel Wilks in 1914 in Westhampnett, West Sussex, but this info is from a BMD search and middle name starts with a E not an M... Confused and not sure how to progress, any handy hints would be appreciated. Thanks Rick Hewett |
