Hi Lisa Thanks for your reply:-) To answer your question, yes it is a Government Agency ( New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services). I am desperate to track down my Gt Grandfathers birth, but I suppose his brother is the next best thing:-) So I'll give it a go - will be somethingto look forward too in the spring. I have heard that there was some sort of census taken in the US that was done inbetween the main 10 year ones - is this correct? I ask as my ancestors went to New Jersey some time after they married in 1883 and were back in the UK for the 1891 Census (with 2 extra children). Regards Bacardi X |

Bacardi, I don't know what is included on the American forms (I only ordered Canadian), but when I did it, I felt it was worth it. I started researching over 25 years ago, and that's the only way I knew how to obtain family information. It only cost $10 ($5?) then, but it also took a long time to receive and we had to send information verifying our relationship. However, in some cases, that's the only way I was able to continue tracing my lines. Besides the certificate, is there any help I can give you? I have access to (American) census and some immigration. PS This is a government agency, right, and not a company selling information? |

My Gt Grandfather and his brother were both born in Hudson County, New Jersey, USA. I've finally tracked down enough details to get the birth record for Gt Grandfathers brother and have been looking on the web site for how to obtain it. The web site says that I can only apply on a certain form, provide proof of my ID, send $25 and lastly that it will take 12 to 14 weeks. Before I jump through all these hoops, has anybody done this and was it worth it in the end??? TIA....Bacardi X |
