Death Certificates WW1

Is it possible to order a death certificate online for someone who died in WW1?I have obtained the GRO index details but the information does not seem to fit the GRO screen 'boxes' The details I have are Powell, Frank A.H. L/Cpl. 43231 Essex 1917 I.66 400 Can I do it online or do I have to telephone? Richard

You can order online - but if the boxes don't fit I would be tempted to telephone and seek advice from GRO. Good luck. Keith

The CWCC site will let you download a certificate showing a view of the cemetary free of charge.

I would telephone first, too. I have the one for my great-uncle killed in 1918. We already had the letter that his commanding officer sent to my great-grandmother, so it gave us no new information, but it is still nice to have it.

I have been to Tyne Cott, it is a very moving experience, there are in fact still the remains of two german bunkers within the cemetry, and a few graves where men actually fell. Keith
