Thanks for all that Reggie. I do know the father was a house servant - footman then butler, and Mary Ann was formerly a lady's maid. Maybe they were working in different houses. I know he worked as a Butler after they married so probably lived in over census nights. It just threw me a bit when I saw the father down as Arthur! Molyneux Street looks right too. Jo.

The Blackmore's seem not to have any connection, other than living in the same house.......for some reason, the baby is listed above his mother, which is odd, to say the least......... Can't decipher the name of the street........however, the word below it is 'continued' Reg

Would some kind person please take a look at 1871 Census Ref: RG 10 168. It's page 78 of the St.Marylebone parish of London. I am having great trouble reading the address (no.24 *** Street) and more particularly the word immediately below the address. My interest is William Deacon and his mother Mary, about half way down the page at schedule no. 517. I feel certain this William (1871) is my husband's paternal grandfather but his father's name has been given as Arthur, presumably the Arthur Blackmore listed above William. William's father should be another William Deacon (1833). As the young William is only 5 months old I am wondering if his mother has returned to where she used to work to show off her baby. But that doesn't explain the father's name. Hopefully this is a straight forward transcription mistake. What do you think? Jo
