Would someone be kind enough to look at 'name search', enter Sinclair as name and Caithness as place. I am getting no years, the first five listed have zero as the year, the rest nothing, all 15 pages. I suppose it could be something wrong here, notified GR yesterday, but nothing heard. Derek, did you enter a year of birth? I suspect with no birth year entered it will not show the birth year in the results. Keith Update, just tried it with YOB 1880 entered =- 20 years and got all dates around entered date +- 20 years.

Hi Derek, do you mean name search on GR? If so yes I did, just entered Sinclair with no forename, 1880 as YOB and +- 20 years and results came up. If this is what you mean, just add a date and see what happens. Keith

Keith, you're nearly there. What I said was enter 'Sinclair' as the name and 'Caithness' as the place, NO date and then see if any dates are offered by GR.Keep going folks,we'll beat this prob, Derek .

Derek, I tried the way you suggest and it does not work, you have to enter a date for it to work. I see what you mean about other names though without a birth year, it worked for Burns just tried it! Until GR get back to you (dont hold your breath) try adding a birth year.

The problem is that there are too many Sinclairs in Caithness! The search sorts the data and then only shows the first 300 results; BUT when narrowing down to 300 it sorts by DoB, with 0 preceding blank preceding date. (Then it sorts the 300 however you want them) And there are more than 300 Caitness Sinclairs without a DoB! If you search for, say, Alexander Sinclair, 40-odd have no date, but the rest do... Gordon.
