Just had a look and the 1901 entry looks like it could be them. Have found a birth ref for a Annie Elizabeth in Rotherham in 1877 so going to order that cert. Still no sign of Oliver's birth though. Thanks for your help. Dawn |

Well then perhaps a guess on the part of whoever gave the info to the enumerator re age. Anyway it looks like its worth buying the birth cert for the Rotherham birth. |

Marie, The 1891 entry is the one same one I was wondering about. Maire/Heather The 1901 looks promising. Possible he lied about age on census but don't think that they would have married without permission as they lived on same street and Oliver and both dads were all miners, most likely at same pit! Off to check that one out, Thanks Ladies Dawn |

Hi Heather, Don't know of any nickname. Grave stone has him as being 51 when he died in 1928 and her as being 69 in 1947. They married in 1900 at 22 and 21 which ties in with both being c1878. Don't think this is them, but thanks for trying! Dawn |

This does seem like him in 1901 living in Hemsworth with a brother, called William (named after dad?): Looks like born 1880 rather than 1877 (probably cos he married without parents consent???) Anne E Lloyd 21 Ernest Lloyd 1 George H Lloyd 1 month Lovell Lloyd 3 Mary E Lloyd 26 Oliver Lloyd 21 William Lloyd 31 William Lloyd 5 Alice M M Marslson 22 |

Hi everyone, I am at a complete brick wall with my great grandfather and wonder if anyone can give me some advice! This elusive ancestor is Oliver Ernest Lloyd c 1877 The problem being that I cannot find him on the birth register or on the 1901 census anywhere. The details I do know are as follows: Married Annie Elizabeth Williams (c1878) in Hemsworth 1900 (Have certificate for this, was living Baylee Street Hemsworth, father William Lloyd, both coal miners) Had 4 children all born in the Hemsworth/Barnsley area, first I know of in 1905, so unlikely moved very far. Died 7 Feb 1928 (seen grave and obituaries - death ref in register says Olive E Lloyd for that quarter?) My dad believes that both he and his wife are from Pontypridd area but have not managed to find any proof of this yet. Have found an Oliver Lloyd (born Rotherham) on 1891 census with a father of William living in Pontefract but without being able to check birth, do not know if this is right Oliver as do not know his mothers name. Any advice that anyone can give would be much appreciated as I am quite new to this and really stuck. If I hadn't seen the grave and marriage cert I think I would be doubting he actually existed! Hope this makes sense to someone and that someone can help. Thanks Dawn |
