Thanks Alan - that's absolutely brilliant!! Sorry I didn't respond last night but I was watching 'Charles II' on Channel 4 instead!!!! LOL Armed with that I was able to contact the libray who very obliging was able to look it up for me in Kelly's and I got the information I needed. HUGE THANK YOU!!! Chris

If you know the address it might be worth tring to find the name of the licensee via the electoral rolls (assuming he lived on the premises). The library may have offer a service to search for it if you can't get there yourself. Glen

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to find that for me! I'll contact him and see if he has any information. However, I now know that it was in Hambrook street, Southsea. It was originally called the Prince of Wales and changed to King Edward VII when he became king in 1901. Now I'm looking for the Licencee so your contact may be able to help. I know this is a long shot - but can anyone identify a public house in Portsmouth called KING EDWARD VII? It would have been in use just before - and probably during - the war, although it may have changed its name! I've looked in 'The Pubs of Portsmouth' but cannot find it. I'd be very grateful if anyone can shed any light. Very many thanks. Chris
