How to see the people in your own tree on searches

As discussed yesterday, GR's new system took away a key feature of the site- the ability to see and therefore match people in your own tree when you conduct a name/surname/place search. This is an issue especially for people with a very large tree who cannot remember the names and dates of all the people in their tree and don't want the hassle of matching entries with a paper record or their family tree software in another window. The solution if this problem bothers you is to creat a second duplicate GR account and import your gedcom to the duplicate account. To do this you will need a second email address (a new hotmail/yahoo address will do if you don't have two already). When you open the account you need to put your name down as what you want this second account to be labelled as - so dont just use your existing account name or people will not know whch account to email you through. I suggest 'YournameDuplicate' or something along those lines. Then import your gedcom to the new account. log out and log back into your old account. GR seems to take several hours for the search database to be updated so that your new duplicate names show up on a search, but they seem to eventually without much problem. Hopefully GR will fix this problem soon in which case you can just delete your duplicate tree. Hope this helps. Wade

Wade Although your solution to this problem is a clever and cunning one, it beggars belief that we, the PAYING members of this Site, have to go through all these contortions merely to view our tree! OC

An aside You don't need a seperate e.mail address to have a non paying account/tree. This is my paying account and I have a non paying one using the same e.mail address.....All contacts from both trees go to the same e.mail addy :) If I then open the e.mail and click the link it takes me direct to whichever account the query was generated from.
