No I havent got his death certificate, I looked on bmd today and there was quiet a few William Kennedy's that died between 1866 and 1871. As I dont know when he was born I cant narrow it down. Thankyou for your suggestion about a steam bakery, I am going on google now to see if I can find anything out. Thankyou, Jayne

Perhaps he worked in a steam bakery - method of heating the ovens. Jay

Hi Kathleen The family came over to England from Ireland between 1863 and 1868 and by the time of the 1871 census he had died. Jayne

I suppose it all depends on what the person giving the information said. Can't really think of anything else it could mean. Was he always at home on census night? If he was ever missing, it could be that he was aboard ship. Kath. x

Hi That is what I thought but would it not have said Baker on a Steamer if this was the case. Jayne

ON the certificate I got today it said that the occupation of the father was 'Baker in a Steamer' Could someone tell me what I steamer is. Or what this job would have involved please. I am going out now but I will be back later. Thankyou,Jayne
