Well, I'm absolutely stumped Mark! I can't find any trace of Selina, John or the children in later censuses. All I did find were these 2 possible death entries on Ancestry View Record Name Estimated Birth Year Year of Registration Quarter of Registration District County View Image View Record Selina Hitchin abt 1845 1884 Jan-Feb-Mar Hull Yorkshire View Record Selina F Hitchin abt 1846 1911 Jul-Aug-Sep Blackburn Lancashire But of course, if Selina did get married again, neither of these will be her! |

Ok Mark.......email on its way! These births would seem to confirm that it is actually Hitchin From FreeBMD Surname First name(s) District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Mar 1869 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HITCHIN Margaret Frees Hull 9d 219 Surname First name(s) District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Births Dec 1870 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hitchin Henry Charles Hull 9d 216 Right, I'll go and see if I can find them in later censuses |

Hi Mark I think I've confused you a bit. All my fault.....sorry! The marriage is that of Selina's son Salisbury. I'd gone off track somewhat. But back to your original query......what happened to Selina? Well, Going back to Maureen's marriage suggestion of either Thomas Smith Clarkson or John Hitchin. How does this grab you from 1871 Name: Selena Hutching Age: 28 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1843 Relation: Wife Spouse's name: John Gender: Female Where born: Kingston Upon Hull Civil Parish: Holy Trinity Ecclesiastical parish: St Stephen Town: Kingston Upon Hull County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England Registration district: Hull Sub-registration district: Myton ED, institution, or vessel: 4 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 146 Household Members: Name Age Annie Hutching 6 Frances Hutching 12 Henry Hutching 5 months John Hutching 38 Margaret Hutching 1 Mary Hutching 10 Selena Hutching 28 Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 4789; Folio: 61; Page: 21; GSU roll: 847345. The image actually says Hitching. I think this is your Selina. If she didn't marry John until 1868, then I would think that the older children are his by a previous marriage, and Maragret and Henry are Selina and John's (Margaret after her mother and Henry after her borther) And by the way, I've got loads of Selina's. Perhaps it's a Yorkshire thing! |

Hi Jeanette Thank you for your postings..........it seems there must be a connection as Selina isnt a common name for a start!....it seems odd though that he would call his daughter in his second marriage the name of his first wife...? unless perhaps she died? |

I think Waldemar married Emily Gibson as there is this family in 1871 Name: Waldemar Sahlgreen Age: 41 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1830 Relation: Boarder Gender: Male Where born: N B, Denmark Civil Parish: Holy Trinity Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England Registration district: Hull Sub-registration district: Humber ED, institution, or vessel: 12 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 70 Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 4787; Folio: 111; Page: 13; GSU roll: 847344. Emily Waldemar age 25 1871 if Selina did marry Sanders then this could be a possible child Name: Salisbury R Sanders Age: 6 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1865 Relation: Grandson Gender: Male Where born: Hull, Yorkshire, England Civil Parish: Holy Trinity Ecclesiastical parish: St Stephen Town: Kingston upon Hull County/Island: Yorkshire Country: England Registration district: Hull Sub-registration district: Myton ED, institution, or vessel: 13 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 71 Household Members: Name Age Margaret Miller 57 Salisbury R Sanders 6 Mary Thwaites 62 Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 4790; Folio: 67; Page: 12; GSU roll: 847346 but without certificates none of this can be proved Maureen |
