I did a search on 1881 on Ancestry this after noon, no name, but I put in the county, and in the keyword box I put Union Workhouse, came up with quite a few results! |

Thanks again Old crone.:) I have found a 1881 workhouse census inmates list (from the workhouse web site) + he is shown as an inmate, that's why I thought maybe inmates weren't shown on the 'normal' census records. I can't find him on 1841 or 1861census so I got to wondering, maybe he was in prison! Regards Ann |

Ann Prisons and Workhouses and other Institutions were enumerated in the same way as everyone else. But sometimes, Workhouse Inmates etc, were only shown by their initials, so it's a guessing game. Are you sure they haven't just been mistranscribed? Where would you expect them to be? Do you have them on any other census? OC |

RE :Census. I have done a search + can't find my relatives name anywhere. Can anyone tell me plz, if a person was a workhouse inmate would they be shown on a online census? Also (sorry) but I am sure I saw a site mentioned on here for prison inmates lists, Can anyone remember what the web adress is. Many thanks Ann |
