Hi all Please can anyone tell me if there could be a logical reason for someone to give his place of birth alternately as Llanfabon Glamorgan and Blackwood Monmouthshire. I am reasonably sure it is the same man but the changing place of birth is disconcerting. Tricia |

isnt it annoying lol my Webb's seem to love doing it even telling one census taker that they were even British Subjects!!!!!!!! but saying that they did get them all baptised during 1859 even tho they were born from 1850 and cant find def births for them either!!!!!!! frustrating isnt it lol. (angie wishing she had a flipping time machine so she could collar these rellies and get to the bottom of it lol) |

Depends on what the question is and who answers it. 'Where were you born?' could produce a very different answer from 'Where do you come from?' I have one who consistently says(or someone else does) he comes from the village where he lives. In only one census (the last one I looked at, and when you had to go to a record office / library within that county!!) does it give correct place of birth. Jay |

Hi Tricia, Most of my rellies changed their place , and date of birth regularly. Probably he moved at an early age, or someone else supplied the info for the census. On the last census my husband gave my place of birth as Ashtead Surrey when i in fact moved there at the age of two. You will probably have to look for more info about him to confirm his identity - neighbours, rest of household etc. Good luck ! Elaine. |

Thanks for your replies ladies. Angela if you find a time machine....pleeese save a seat for me. Janet I did not think of how the question could be asked but it does seem feasible as their children were born in various places. Elaine the rest of the family seem to match so I think I will stop worrying and accept it is him. regards Tricia |
