This long band sampler, which is 100% original, and in excellent condition, measures 23 x 9 inches. It has the alphabet and motifs,in strong colours of red, greens, blue, and black..............at the bottom of the sampler it has the name, which is BARBRA SIMPSON,AGED 10, 1792. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Victorian Samplers by Emma Eliza and Edith Robinson (believed to be sisters) I have decided to sell these together as I believe that their value is in remaining as a 'family unit', I feel they represent a wonderful insight into Victorian family life. Both samplers are in good condition but faded. Edith's has retained its blue colouring. Both are well framed in simple wood frames. Emma Eliza's Sampler 42.5cm x 40cm Wording reads: Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy Youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. Emma Eliza Robinson Aged 7 years 1866. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WOOL SAMPLER DATED 1886.16.5 INCHES BY 19.5 INCHES.WORKED BY ISABELLA J. MGLASHAN GOLSPIE. SAYS WROUGHT AT MRS MUNROS.13TH JULY 1886. THE TREES AND SMALL EARS OF CORN AND RED HEARTS ARE ALL RAISED WOOL WORK.THE SAMPLER IS BACKED IN LINEN, OBVIOUSLY NO FRAME.NOT AN EXPERT, SO HAVE ATTEMPTED TO SHOW YOU IN PHOTOGRAPHS. PART OF A DECEASED ESTATE, THE NAMES TO ME SUGGEST A SCOTTISH ORIGIN.IN EXCELLENT ORDER WITH CLEAR BRIGHT COLOURS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A small, plain and slightly grubby victorian sampler. The sampler is unframed and has a paper backing. The backing is inscribed in ink with the following:- 'Mary Jane Boyd? Cannot read? Aged 7 years 1858' ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENGLISH SAMPLER,DATED 1823,WORKED BY HELEN SALMOND --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SAMPLER,DATED 1826,WORKED BY CATHERINE SPENCER.THE WORK IS OF SILK ON LINEN,WITH MOTIFS OF TREES,FLOWERS,ANIMALS.BRIGHT COLOURS OF GREEN,BLUES,PINK,WHITE,BROWNS AND GOLD...THE SAMPLER IS IN GOOD CONDITION,IT HAS 3 VERY SMALL HOLES TO THE LINEN....THE SAMPLER COMES FRAMED AND GLAZED,IT MEASURES 16 X 13 INCHES....THE VERSE READS.................o happiness! thou pleasing dream where is thy substance found sought thro the varying scenes in vain of earths capacious round religions sacred lamp alone unerring points the way where happiness for ever shines with unpolluted ray..... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENGLISH SAMPLER,DATED 1828,WORKED BY CHARLOTTE PARR.THE WORK IS OF SILK ON LINEN,WITH BRIGHT COLOURS OF GREEN,BLUES,PINK,WHITE,BROWNS,RED,BLACK AND GOLD...THE SAMPLER IS IN GOOD CONDITION,....THE SAMPLER COMES FRAMED AND GLAZED,IT MEASURES 15 X 14 INCHES.....THE VERSE READS..........the gifts indulgent heaven bestows are variously convey'd the human mind like nature knows alternate light and shade while changing aspects all things wear can we expect to find unclouded sun-shine all the year or constant peace of mind...more gaily shines the blooming spring when wintry storms are o'er retreating sorrows thus may bring delights unknown before then christian turn thy fears away nor sink in gloomy care tho' clouds o'erspread the scene to day to morrow may be fair.
