I am looking for the birth and place of birth of George Walter Channell , his birthday I know was 25th December, I have found his marriage and death but no luck with the birth, his death in Worthing, West Sussex 1977 says he was born in 1904, I have his wedding to a Dorothy Hornby 22nd September 1931, in Horsham West Sussex, Can anyone please find him as I have no idea where he was born, this is for my mum in law as she is now desperate to know. Many Thanks Gillie.

The marriage cert will tell you his age at the time..........which may well be more accurate than that given at his death.........plus his father's name and occupation. Reg

For a marriage cert you just need one of the couples names and the gro ref. Hey you have the exact date, you could get that from the local (to the event) registry office then.

Well, it depends on what you want to learn. If you want to go back on both sides or just want to know about his father? Does that marriage Reg kindly found help at all? You could always go to familyrelatives.org and do a search for his birth using a rough time scale (1866-1920 are fully name searchable). Its £5 for 60 units - or was - Id look, but they have whipped away my units that I hadnt used unfortunately. If you found his birth ref and got his birth cert it would give his mums maiden name and his dad. (Or, you can look for free through the ancestry full bmd index, taking say 1904 as your base then working back and forwards - remember the age given at death is only as good as the informant's knowledge).
