No birth registered as William Hiram Hayes from 1858 to 1860 but it was not compulsory then. Or it could be just registered as a male birth with the surname of Hayes. Maureen

Thanks everyone, l already have him on the 1891 census age 32 in Smethwick, civil parish Harborne, county Staffordshire. His wife Susannah age 31 and children Elisha (my grandfather) George, Hiram and William. He is missing on the 1901 census as he died March 1901. It is his registered birth l cannot find, so that l can find who his parents were. l have his marriage cert 04/12/1880 to Susannah Caddick.

Hi Pauline. You possibly can't find him on the census as he maybe wasn't at home at the time they took the census. They register only the people who are in that house at the time, including visitors, lodgers etc.Have you found an address that includes his wife and any possible children,he could possibly have left that area.Does he have any other relatives in that area.Try and look for a link.Complicated I know and very frustrating!!Keep at it...you'll find him.Let me know how you get on or if you need any help.Helen Anderson- Smith.

Where have you looked so far? Are you sure it's not William Henry?
