For instance, if you specify the name of the informant, then you may miss the correct cert, because at this stage you simply do not know who the informant was - it could have been a neighbour, a friend, anyone at all. I am looking into a death certificate. I have relative informtion on dates. He is listed in the 1861 Census and not the 1871 Census. There are only a few listed between that time. I don't know his exact DOB, as the census are wrong? His wife passed away before him. He still had daughter listed in the 1861 census, and they could be the clue if they were listed as a witness. It the age thing does not match up, so I'm guessing and trying to narrow down the time frame.

Oh and it will say about the reference checking options at the bottom of the application Do you mean the addresses for the bride and groom, or the witness. Was it a marriage certificate that you are enquiring about.

Does the certificate include the residence where the person was living at the time. What is the process in order for them to check. Can this be done at the local register office in the town they lived. I don't live in England can you correspond with them by email or add and attach the informtion to the inquiry onto the certificate.

Hi, You cant view before you buy. You could included the witness name as a reference checking point, this way if it is the wrong one then you will only be charged £3 and your other £4 will be refunded.
