Bob...I suggested she redownload AA as the update problem may just be that the version of AA she is using is outdated. In order to continue updates she would need to download the latest version. Judy :) |

Great for tough ones Keith but most recommend running antispyware/Av etc programs before posting on HJT forums. She hasn't even done that yet. Bob |

Sue, norton as far as I am aware is only anti-virus, not anti spyware, if you wish you could try this site, they will assist you on the security forum. You need to register but it is free. http://forums.techguy.org. They are all volunteers so may take a while, but they will get to you. They will ask you to download a small programme called HiJackThis, download and run it, this will show them what is running on your computer, from which they can assist with the removal. Hope this helps Keith |

Some of the free spyware programs, on occassion, put out a new version and in order for you to be able to update you have to go to their website and redownload the program - I highly recommend AD-AWARE. Once you download and install it turn your PC on in SAFE MODE and then run the spyware program - running the PC in SAFE MODE will allow the program to remove 'working' programs (programs running in the background without your knowledge.) A working program is harder to remove than one that isn't running. Judy |

I used to recommend Ewido which has been bought out by AVG (of antivirus fame) http://free.grisoft(.)com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5 Looks pretty good and easy to use. Make sure to choose antispyware NOT antivirus Full version expires in thirty days to free version (manual updates) You may find it easier than spybot Perhaps some Norton users can help with the program control Bob |

Here http://www.download(.)com/3000-8022-10122137.html Is your firewall blocking ad-aware updates? It usually is fine. Bob |

Sue /Shirley googleing for spyware removal is NOT recommended. Try ad-aware or spy-bot . http://www.lavasoftusa(.)com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php There are other good ones but there are lots do the opposite of what they say and can be very difficult to remove. Seek advice first. Bob |

Can anyone help.In my taskbar at bottom of screen I have a red circle with a white cross in it. I get a message from it saying my computer is infected with spyware and that windows will download the latest up to date antispywear but it doesn't seem to do anything. This message is coming up every few minutes. How can I get rid of it. Norton did detect a virus but seems to have got rid of it. Any help much appreciated. |
