Once a tree permission has been given, can it be witheld. Reason I ask is, I was given 'faulty' info by somebody asking to see my tree, not once but 10 times. Eventually gave in and gave permission, not realising two things, I had'nt checked the hide living people box, and this person is a name collecter, collecting the surname of 'my' living people. I don't mind giving genuine researchers tree permissions, but this one has got my goat. Thanks, in advance, for any replies I am off to work so will check later |

If you go to 'Shared trees' and untick the 'let them see my tree' box - that should stop them. It's a pity there are people that do this - they spoil it for everyone else. Personally, I really don't see the point. I enjoy looking for the info myself and if you are just copying it from someone else's tree, you haven't actually done anything so it's a complete waste of time. I only ask for help when I am absolutely desperate and have been looking for so long that I am probably skenning and missing what's right in front of my face!! I love the buzz of finding a hit - that's what keeps me going with my tree. It's addictive!! |

Hi When I had a similar experience, the person, despite requests, would not remove 'my' living people of their tree, usual story of no connection with me and I did not feel I needed to be on their tree and neither did my immediate family. I e-mailed GR with a complaint and they did in fact remove the living people I specified from the persons tree. Regards Gail. |

I don't have too much of a problem when people add the details from the point that they link to me, and provided we have previously established our contact.. However just now and again one ore two want to add details which are of no relevance at all to them. A year ago I had a good relationship with someone who is a distant relation. She copied a lot of my tree and then started to hint to others it was her research. Accepted she added some of her own research for which I was also gratefu So far okish.l. I then found my own name from someone who I have never heard of before and asked them three times to contact me and let me know who they were and how they were connected. It was a carbon copy of the details I provided to the earlier person. I never did get a reply, but after threatening to report then to GR they did remove living names from the tree. All others who have me in their tree are welcome. Especially Claire and her cousin in oz, - Thanks for the photo - If only I was 30 years younger.....! |
