If you GOOGLE SS armenian there are 2 notes - one details the Grenadier Guards sailing to Belgium on the ship in early Oct 1914. The other one, although not fullly available, has enough in the heading to be interesting. SS Armenian was the largest merchant ship lost in the War. She was 8225 tons and was a mule transport vessel. Divers were exploring her in Sep 2002. I've looked in Marine Deaths on the 1837 site but no mention of your man. Regards Keith. |

hi..i`ve been told to look for a book called 'Cross of Sacrifice vol 5 'regarding a posting for a william oakes killed 28-6-1915 on a ship named 'armenian'.sailed from liverpool...my g.grandfather was william edward oakes born garston,liverpool,,killed in ww1 abt 1916.....i want to check whether william in the book is the same william edward oakes i am researching...i`m also informed there`s a posting on tower hill for william as well...anybody have this book?? if not ,is it available through military records etc??...regards...allan oakes |
