On a recent visit to Sydney I was impressed by 'The Welcome Wall' at the Maritime Musuem. It is an ongoing project to record the names of migrants to Australia. There is a searchable database of some of the names already recorded at - www.anmm.gov.au/ww I didn't find any relations - but you might!!!

Several states have Welcome Walls - the one for Western Australia is at http://www.museum.wa.gov.au/welcomewalls/research.asp Remember that information on these sites is given by the family concerned and is not confirmed by official sources/documents and also that even tho' a family has a long term settlement in one state, they may have arrived in another one. Many migrants were sponsored and had to remain in one place and work for a specific employer for a certain length of time (usually a couple of years) as a condition of sponsorship. However, once those terms were completed, many migrants found other employment in a different place so it's not impossible that a family that has a 50 year history in one state, may actually have first settled in another.
