Thanks Georgina, just found that one. it does say born out of county, I guess that is all they cared about that year. Going to have a look for 1861 perhaps that will help. xxx |

Maggie I have found the family in 1841 but it's not much help because the 1841 doesen't give a place of birth. Georgina. |

Yes it is pretty awful. I have been looking on old maps of Glamorganshire and there is nothing even like it other than Cardiff,..perhaps the enumerator was doing fancy 'ff's'. The maps only show all those lovely Welsh names!! I am going to be pretty excited if I have finally found my Welsh connection!! Thanks for looking Georgina.xx |

Thanks so much Georgina. Yes, that does look like shire more than anything. Do you think the following word is Cordell? I guess I need to look at a map. I am grateful for your eyesight!! Thanks again! |

It's me with my poor eyesight again!! Looking at the 1851 census for Elizabeth Edwards b 1789 living St. James Clerkenwell. It says she was born in Gloucestershire, Cardell, but when I look at the image it looks more like Glamorgan to me. Looked through the mag. glass and also enlarged it, but still can't make Cardell Gloucest. out of it. Would someone take a look and check for me? Many thanks. |
