Thank you, OC. Actually, I have been asking around and there is a LDS centre that's not too far from where I live. Well, at least not as far away as Yorkshire is to me. Might spend a couple of days doing some research. Thanks again. Susan

susan Just looked up Arncliffe on the LDS - that place is so small and remote that I should think it's a dead cert you have the right people! LDS hold quite a lot of the registers, including 'The Ancient Parish Registers' and some history books. Can you get to an LDS centre where you live? (If you look on the LDS site, don't enter Yorkshire as part of the place name - the LDS thinks it's in York, lol) OC

You may be right, Margaret, because I check all info. I'm given, but I still feel a certain amount of responsibility. OC I am looking for the parents of James Windsor b. 1784 in Arncliffe, Yorkshire. He is on the 41/51 Census. His parents could be John Windsor (b. 1755 in Arncliffe) and Sarah. John's parents could be John Windsor and Ann Carr married 1754 in Arncliffe Yorkshire. So you see the info. does match up but no guarantees. Any help would be most appreciated. Susan

Susan But your contact should have checked any info you sent anyway. Serves them right as far as I am concerned. All info received from others should always be checked. Margaret

Susan Is there anything we can help with? Whereabouts in the country do these supposed events take place? Someone may be handy to the area to do a bit of checking. OC

It would be bad enough if my tree was wrong but I have gone down the wrong track before, when I was greener than I am now, and then passed on the information to a contact. Now I will always emphasise that any info. I have is unsubstantiated unless I have definate proof. My contact was annoyed with me and rightly so. Susan

Susan Unless you can check it, I would be very wary. Some of these submitted records can be a work of fiction. I'm not saying they all are, but they need checking. I realise it may be difficult, but no good a tree for you if it's wrong.

Susan I think you are right to be reluctant. If no dates/places etc are quoted, then it really is a guess. Can you get to an LDS Family History Centre? If so, you can borrow films of the relevant PRs, for a nominal amount, and check out the facts. OC

I'm aware that any information on IGI must be backed up by parish records and/or certificates, but am I right in thinking that any record submitted by a member of LDS can be a little more unreliable than records that are extracted from parish records. I have found 3 generations on IGI that match in time and place but not having access to parish records (I'm in Australia) I am reluctant to put them in my family tree. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Susan
