Im taking a long shot at this one, but I found out I had a cousin who was born around in the late 1940's, he had Downs syndrome and was put in a home only his father went to see him and no one ever visited the poor child, can anyone tell how I would go about trying to find the home he stayed at. Dad thinks he could be dead now. The home we think was in the West Midlands. Any ideas would be much appreicated. Best Wishes Yvonne |

How terribly sad. The only shortcut I can think of is to look for a death cert - that will give you an address. Of course, he may not have died. OC |

Hi ya, I know this is a long shot, but have you tried Barnardos? My friend was put in homes all her life and finally traced her family through the above. Hope this helps, best wishes and good luck Julie |

Julie I don't THINK Barnardos took handicapped children, but I could be wrong. I think it is more likely he was in a long-stay hospital, as he was born in the 1940s. If you know exactly where he was born, it might be worth getting onto the local Health Authority, who would know which hospitals took long stay cases in those days. OC |

Hi everyone Many thanks for your help, yes never thought about Barnardos, I have a friend who works for those maybe she could help me as well. Besides dad who is 87 now there is only a sister and another brother left but he is very ill, Wonder if dads sister might be able to help me. I have thought that maybe he isnt dead which would be wonderful cos I would love to meet him and tell him im his cousin, god bless him. When dad told me, I wont tell you what I called the Harrison family cos the language was shocking how could they do a thing to him, but mum said things were different then. I cant stop thinking about him. Anyway many thanks for your ideas ill give them a go. Best Wishes Yvonne xx |
